On November 21, 1783, in Paris, France, the 1st manned flight was created by Jean-Francois Pilatre de Rozier and Francois Laurent d'Arlandes in the hot air balloon produced by the Montgolfier brothers.  Modern hot air ballons, with the onboard source of heat, were pioneered by Ed Yost, starting in the 1950s. His work generated his first successful flight, on October 22, 1960.
